1972 VW Super Beetle

Steve Adams

I've had this Bug for just a few months. It’s a '72 Super. It was bought north of Seattle and now resides on Whidbey Island. It is kept company by numerous other VWs on the island. I won't name it but it is known to others as BumbleBee. I had a '71 Super years ago. And like Jeeps, selling VWs are always regretted years later.

This car came in very good condition with very little rust. Although, the brake shoes were dated 1980 and the spare tire is original to the car and reads MADE IN DDR. I do something to the car weekly whether it’s regular maintenance (ignition parts) or other stuff due sooner or later (suspension and brake systems overhaul).

When I owned my '71 I couldn't afford a roof rack. That was a must this time around. It lacks a dash cover and the proper year steering wheel, but that's ok. At 49 years old, this Bug still tears up the roads, handles like sports car and turns heads everywhere it goes. My next project is to paint the rims and possibly go with wide white wall tires to match the body.
